BAJA CALIFORNIA – The Baja California State Congress has officially declared 2025 as the “Year of Sustainable Tourism as a Driver of Social Welfare and Progress”, highlighting the importance of tourism as a driver of economic, social and cultural development in the region.
The intention is to reinforce the vision of positioning Baja California as a global reference in sustainable and competitive tourism.
As of this declaration, the allusive legend will be included on all official stationery and documentation issued by the State Powers, Autonomous Constitutional Bodies and City Councils, with the main objective of consolidating the commitment towards a tourism model that balances economic growth with social welfare and the preservation of cultural and natural heritage.
The Ministry of Tourism has played a key role in strengthening the sector. Among the most outstanding achievements is the inclusion of Baja California’s gastronomy in the first edition of the Michelin Guide Mexico 2024 and the securing of venues for high-impact international events, such as the Caribbean Series and the Tianguis Turístico 2025.
The Caribbean Series 2025, to be held in Mexicali from January 31 to February 7, will not only attract thousands of baseball fans, but will also project Baja California as a world-class sports destination. For its part, the Tianguis Turístico 2025, with its main venue at the Baja California Center, is shaping up to be the most important tourism promotion event in Latin America, connecting the region with international markets and reinforcing its global relevance.
According to Baja California’s Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, this declaration is a strategic step towards sustainable and inclusive tourism that not only promotes the arrival of visitors, but also guarantees that the benefits of tourism translate into social, economic and environmental development for local communities.
He also highlighted the positive impact of initiatives such as the ‘Traveling Hearts’ program, which promotes social tourism by facilitating the access of vulnerable communities to the enjoyment of the state’s tourism heritage.
The focus on sustainability also includes the active integration of native communities in the tourism offer, recognizing their role in the preservation and enrichment of the state’s cultural heritage. This commitment is consistent with the gastronomic, natural and cultural richness that distinguishes Baja California as a destination of excellence.
Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda and the State Congress have indicated that this joint effort with the private sector, municipalities and communities is crucial for 2025 to become an emblematic year for tourism in Baja California.
