ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque City Council announced the completion of the new Singing Arrow Community Center in southeast Albuquerque. The 15,000-square-foot facility opened its doors and will offer programming for the entire community, including before- and after-school activities.
“What a winning project for our city. After a lot of hard work and community investment, today we are turning this neighborhood community center into a new world-class facility. We are thrilled to have this new space open as a hub for social gatherings, youth enrichment, resource connections, and a point of pride as this community continues to grow,” said Mayor Tim Keller.
The new center has all the amenities to make it a focal point of the community. Facilities include a fitness room, a playground, multi-purpose rooms, a computer lab, a kitchen and meeting space.
The City’s Family and Community Services (FCS) Department will manage the new and former facility to accommodate before- and after-school programs, fitness and art activities, as well as events in partnership with the local community.
“We are excited to have a more comprehensive community center to really address the needs of the community, with programs now for adults and youth. This area has such a rich cultural background, and this center is really meant to play to the strengths and natural wonder of this part of Albuquerque,” said FCS Director Carol Pierce.
The project cost approximately US$5.6 million and was completed on budget and on schedule. The improvements also included work to pay tribute to the Ranche De Carnue archaeological site just south of the community center, including self-guided educational tours.
