YUMA, AZ – The City of Yuma has appointed Isaiah Kirk as the new Information Technology (IT) Director, replacing Kathleen Fernandez, according to the City Council.
Kirk holds a bachelor’s degree in Network Operations and Security from Western Governors University and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP-ISSMP).
In addition, he is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, bringing over 20 years of knowledge, leadership and experience in the communications field. He rose through the ranks and progressed through the Marine Corps ranks to become Deputy Director of Communications based in Iwakuni, Japan.
Prior to his appointment as Director of Information Technology, he served as Deputy Director of IT Operations at the City in 2019-2020. Most recently, he served as a Communications Network Engineer for the Marine Corps, managing West Coast contractors over a region stretching from Yuma to Camp Pendleton to the Lake Tahoe area.
“I am very excited to have Isaiah back as a member of Team Yuma. I was very impressed with his leadership skills when he first worked for us. The city and community are fortunate to have him in this role,” said Acting City Manager Jay Simonton.
For his part, Kirk said he is interested in developing and improving Yuma’s communications, creating a world-class, secure and reliable communications infrastructure that aligns with a connected and forward-thinking city.
Kirk said he has had a “love and passion” for Yuma since he was stationed here as a Marine some 20 years ago, despite numerous moves over the next 17 years. “We can continue to be the community we are while embracing some of the security concerns with information technology,” he said.
