SAN DIEGO, CA – Nearly one million people in San Diego have yet to receive their booster dose, the County Health and Human Services Agency announced.
According to officials, of the 2 million 182,257 San Diegans eligible to receive their booster, 969,219 still have not received their dose, prompting county health officials to issue an appeal for people to get vaccinated to prevent the spread and spread of Covid-19.
“Covid-19 vaccines are the best defense we have to further slow the spread of the pandemic,” said Wilma J. Wooten, County public health officer.
In addition, it was reported that the fourth dose for adults over 50 years of age is now available at vaccination sites. This comes after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Western States Task Force have approved an additional Pfizer or Moderna booster for this sector of the population.
Currently, more than 2.95 million people or 93.9% of San Diegans over the age of five have been vaccinated with at least one dose; while nearly 2.60 million or 82.5% of the population is fully vaccinated.
Also, one million 213,038 persons have received a booster dose, representing 55.6% of the eligible population.
During the pandemic so far, 5,178 people have died as a result of the coronavirus, while 750,454 positive cases have been registered in the region.
