YUMA, AZ – The City of Yuma will celebrate National Public Works Week May 16-20, so residents were invited to an open house to learn about some of the upcoming projects in the community, plus the unveiling of a new “Welcome to Yuma” sign will take place during the event.
The city will hold a community outreach open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, in the Training Room at the Public Works Services Building, located at 155 W. 14th St. Staff will discuss services such as pavement preservation, the Adopt-a-Street program, Yuma Click and Fix, and a major route change in solid waste service.
The open house will be free and will include the reading of an official City Council proclamation about Public Works Week in Yuma.
On Thursday, May 19, a mini-beautification project at Avenue A and 34th Place will be unveiled. As on previous occasions, students from local high schools have played an important role in creating the city’s welcoming announcement. Weld Like A Girl, in collaboration with students from Az Tec and EOC High School, will be on hand for the presentation.
The City of Yuma’s public works services include essential day-to-day functions such as residential solid waste and recycling collection; street repair and maintenance, including street sweeping; fleet services; street signage; street lighting and traffic signals.
These events are part of a busy week for Public Works staff. On Monday, they will visit a local school for equipment demonstrations. On Friday, staff members will attend an annual employee recognition event.
The American Public Works Association (APWA), since 1960, instituted National Public Works Week (#NPWW) as a public education campaign.
