BROWNSVILLE, TX – The City of Brownsville welcomed Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who briefly visited the Texas town last week for a brief meeting with Elon Musk, co-founder and chief designer of SpaceX.
City Hall reported that Joko Widodo flew to Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport for a two-hour visit at Starbase with the also Tesla company owner.
“The President of the Republic of Indonesia visiting Texas for the first time is very special…. I hope this visit will inspire more economic and people-to-people cooperation,” said Andre Omer Siregar, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia.
President Joko Widodo is currently chairing the G20 Summit and aims to bring Russia and Ukraine together at the next session. This is the first time the head of state has visited Texas and the beginning of a long-term relationship between Brownsville and Indonesia.
During the visit, President Widodo was greeted by District 1 Commissioner Nurith Galonsky. “It is truly an honor for the City of Brownsville to host President Joko Widodo. Of all the cities in Texas, to be selected as a first visit to Texas he chose Brownsville. We look forward to working with the Indonesian government to continue partnering and building our international relationship,” said the Commissioner.
Through his Twitter account, President Widodo indicated that during his meeting with Musk they addressed the topic of technology and innovation. He also noted that for almost an hour they had a close look at the Space X rocket factory and also invited Musk to visit Indonesia.
