ARIZONA – SEMICON West, which has been held in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 50 years, will move this year to Phoenix for a five-year annual rotation starting in 2025, in addition to changing its dates from July to October starting in 2024, the organizing company announced.
The event, North America’s premier microelectronics exhibition and conference, will be held in 2025, 2027 and 2029, in Arizona at the Phoenix Convention Center.
“SEMI is pleased to bring SEMICON West to Phoenix, a booming semiconductor manufacturing hub, in October 2025,” said Joe Stockunas, president of SEMI Americas, host of the exhibition and conference.
Stockunas added that Greater Phoenix is home to more than 75 semiconductor companies, including SEMI members EMD Electronics, Intel and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), and the industry employs more than 100,000 people, with more jobs on the way.
“SEMI thanks the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC), the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) and the City of Phoenix for their tremendous support in this important move,” added Stockunas.
Governor Katie Hobbs stated that Arizona has become a world leader in chip manufacturing and innovation, with rapid growth across the semiconductor ecosystem.
“We look forward to joining local partners and SEMICON West in welcoming industry leaders from around the world and showcasing why Arizona has become the world’s top destination for new chip investment,” said Hobbs.
In November, the state of Arizona announced a $100 million investment in semiconductor industry research and development under the CHIPS and USA Science Act. to strengthen the state’s competitive position. And in December, TSMC announced plans to triple its investment in the Phoenix fab to $40 billion, facilities that are expected to create 13,000 high-tech jobs and produce cutting-edge three-nanometer chips at the new fab by 2026.
The Phoenix metro area has also been defined as a rich source of new talent for local semiconductor companies. Arizona State University’s engineering program is the largest in the United States, with more than 30,000 students, 7,000 of whom are in microelectronics-related fields.
Phoenix will host SEMICON West for the first time from October 7-9, 2025. The event will continue to be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco in alternate years and on a long-term basis.
