Ken Salazar visited the border to sister El Chamizal parks
MEXICO – U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar visited the border on Tuesday to attend meetings with local officials and congressmen from Texas and New Mexico
Salazar met with New Mexico 2nd District Representative Gabe Vasquez to discuss border infrastructure investment and modernization projects, as well as strengthening the semiconductor and information and communications technology (ICT) sectors between the United States and Mexico.
“At the Santa Teresa Port of Entry, I met with Gabe and recognized New Mexico authorities for investing in border infrastructure. Working together on our border, North America will consolidate as the leading economic powerhouse,” the ambassador commented.
The arrival of the U.S. ambassador came after he visited Ciudad Juarez on February 15, 2022, where he announced an investment in infrastructure planned for the border.
Hours later, Salazar was present at the twinning ceremony of Chamizal National Park in El Paso, where authorities of the Texan city signed an agreement of understanding with the neighboring town of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.
The Mayor of Juarez, Cruz Perez Cuellar, commented that the idea came up in a meeting in El Chamizal after Ken Salazar’s proposal to twin the parks. He also assured that he will be working to ensure that the agreement is respected in all senses, as it reflected a sample of the union between both cities.
During his participation, Salazar commented that El Chamizal is a space that can unite Mexico and the United States, which is why he seeks to create a binational conservation area that will help bring together the community on both sides of the border.
“It is a brotherhood agreement that has been worked on for a long time, this can be done after two countries were able to reach a resolution on this territory, and now the next step is taken which is the collaboration to implement projects that unite our people in brotherhood and friendship,” said Aaron Mahr, superintendent of the park in El Paso.
