SAN DIEGO, CA – San Diego County has terminated its local emergency proclamation for Covid-19 after three years, the Office of Public Health reported.
With the termination of the local emergency, weekly updates will also come to an end, the agency said, effective February 28, 2023.
The County’s ongoing pandemic response such as testing, treatment and vaccination will continue as the virus continues to circulate, so the public was urged to continue to protect themselves and catch up on vaccinations, including a bivalent booster if they have not already done so.
“Our local health emergency declaration and local emergency proclamation will end on February 28, coinciding with the end of the state declarations,” said Wilma J. Wooten, County Public Health Officer.
Wooten added that despite the termination of the emergency proclamation, now is not the time to let down our guard. “The virus is still circulating throughout the community. People are still hospitalized and dying. So protect yourselves, your family and your friends. We strongly urge people to get up to date on their Covid-19 vaccinations, including the bivalent booster,” he said.
In addition to the end of Covid-19 local and health emergencies on Feb. 28, County officials said articles and social media posts related to this disease will continue to be posted when there is new information to share with the public.
The County’s Covid-19 web pages will continue to be updated weekly. And individuals will be able to subscribe to the Respiratory Virus Surveillance report for ongoing weekly data reports.
According to information from the Health Bureau, more than 2.69 million or 80.7% of San Diegans have received the primary series of one of the approved Covid-19 vaccines. In addition, 576,531 bivalent boosters have been administered, equivalent to 22.9% of the eligible population.
For the week ending February 18, 2023, 1,774 cases were reported to the County in the last seven days for a cumulative 983,031. In addition, nine more deaths were reported for a total in the region of 5,768.
