CALIFORNIA – Houston-based Avelo Airlines has announced exclusive nonstop service to Los Angeles and Orlando from Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport (BRO).
The airline is the only airline in South Texas to offer nonstop flights to both destinations year-round, and the routes will begin May 17 and operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The Brownsville City Council reported that Avelo will serve Orlando International Airport (MCO), and Hollywood-Burbank Airport (BUR), bringing a new era of affordable, convenient and reliable service to South Texas.
Introductory one-way fares between BRO and MCO will start at $69, while fares between BRO and BUR will start at $89, and customers will be able to book at AveloAir.com.
“We are looking forward to bringing Avelo’s low fares, reliability and painstaking service to our home state, with Brownsville as our first Texas market. Getting to Los Angeles and Orlando from South Texas is now easier than ever,” said Avelo Airlines President and CEO Andrew Levy.
City of Brownsville Mayor Trey Mendez said that with these new nonstop flight options, the City Council will work to bring more flights to the border community.
“The City of Brownsville, Texas, is honored to be a strategic destination located between two coastal states and Avelo’s first in Texas. We are excited to bring a game-changing, high-value airline that will serve the business, government and leisure traveler, while being recognized as the only non-stop flight to Los Angeles and Orlando in the RGV,” said Helen Ramirez, City Manager of Brownsville.
Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport Manager Bryant Walker said he is excited for Brownsville to become the first city in Texas to land Avelo. “The company is not only the newest airline to begin scheduled service at BRO, but will fly the largest commercial aircraft to serve BRO in the Airport’s history,” he said.
These new routes will operate with new generation Boeing 737 aircraft. The aircraft are substantially larger and more spacious than the regional units currently operated at BRO by other airlines, offering customers more comfortable seating options and more generous carry-on space.
With the only nonstop service from Brownsville to Los Angeles and Orlando, Avelo also makes it easier for SpaceX employees and their families to travel between SpaceX’s Boca Chica spaceport and the company’s headquarters in Los Angeles and Florida’s Space Coast.
Avelo was founded with the vision of helping its customers save money and time. Since taking off on April 28, 2021, Avelo has carried more than 1.7 million customers on more than 14,000 flights.
The airline flies to 35 popular destinations across the United States, including its five bases at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), Orlando International Airport (MCO), Delaware Valley’s Wilmington Airport (ILG) and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).
