EL PASO, TX – The Chamber of Commerce of El Paso, Texas made a visit to the city of Torreon, Coahuila in order to learn about business opportunities and the needs of the business community in that area.
According to EP Chamber, the director of the business organization, Gladys Gonzalez had the opportunity to meet with the Presidents of the different Chambers, which included CANACINTRA, CANACO and GEL (Grupo Empresarial Lagunero).
The objective of the visit was to learn about business opportunities, as well as the interest in investing in the border community, specifically in three areas: manufacturing, technology and construction.
For three days, representatives from the Office of Tourism (Visit El Paso), the Chamber of Commerce (EP Chamber of Commerce) and the Economic Development offices of the City and County of El Paso Texas, visited the city with the purpose of developing agreements for the benefit of both cities.
Luis Téllez Montes, head of Torreón’s Department of Commerce and Tourism, informed that during the time the Texas delegation was in the municipality, meetings were held with businessmen and chamber representatives, with whom direct links were established to learn about the needs and evaluate investment opportunities in both communities.
He added that they also met with travel agencies to present the most attractive tourist destinations in both Torreon and El Paso, with the intention of designing attractive packages that include transportation, lodging, tours, among others.
Veronica Castro, Director of Tourism of El Paso Texas, said that the intention was to formalize a twinning and benefit tourism and commercial relations, she also highlighted the attractive points and the development that the town she represents has had in the last few years.
For his part, David Cristopher Stout, County Commissioner of El Paso County, Texas, recognized the similarities in infrastructure, layout, climate and culture with Torreon and said that strengthening the link between the cities will be beneficial to promote tourism and commercial development.
In addition, he said that the Tornillo international crossing will soon be operating commercial traffic, which will mean time savings in the transfer of products that are exported.
