Walmart Unveils plan to expand its network of electric car charging stations

UNITED STATES – Walmart announced a plan to expand its own network of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles at its U.S. branches.

The company said the intention is to have these stations fully built out by 2030, with the intention of making electric vehicle ownership more accessible, reliable, convenient and affordable for Walmart and Sam’s Club customers and users.

According to the retailer’s estimates, the installation of the charging systems would be in addition to the nearly 1,300 stations it currently has available in more than 280 establishments in the the United States.

With a store or club located within 10 miles of approximately 90% of Americans, the company aims to position itself to offer a charging option to customers at Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets and Sam’s Clubs.

As more drivers switch to electric vehicles, Walmart said the growth of its network will help expand electric car charging capacity across the states.

The plan represents the latest investment to transform product and business supply chains to be more regenerative, in this case helping to reduce emissions and increase efficiency for customers.

The company also announced tests across its entire supply chain of vehicles and fuel classes toward its goal of achieving zero emissions by 2040. And since last year, many of W+’s customers have already been receiving their deliveries in electric vehicles.
