SAN DIEGO, CA – The County of San Diego announced that on May 15, it broke ground on the latest supportive housing development in North County, located in the city of Vista.
The Santa Fe Senior Village complex in downtown Vista will provide 54 fully furnished studio and one-bedroom apartment homes for seniors who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The County reported that in addition, two housing units will be set aside for housing-insecure senior veterans.
Also, Santa Fe Senior Village will provide residents 62 and older with a permanent home along with full access to services including case management, mental health care, substance use services, counseling and advocacy, as well as peer support activities and physical health care.
The building will be located adjacent to the Vista Transit Center station and within walking distance to a grocery store, public park, medical clinic, public library and restaurants. Amenities will include a large community center, private offices, community garden and laundry facilities.
Developed by National Core and San Diego Community Housing Corporation, the County contributed US$9 million to the project, along with County Housing Authority vouchers valued at US$20 million.
This is the third affordable housing project funded by the County, and the second for seniors, in the last month.
Since the integration of Housing and Community Development Services into the County’s Health and Human Services Agency in 2017, more than US$240 million has been used for affordable housing projects through our Innovative Housing Trust Fund, project-based vouchers, County surplus property and No Place Like Home funds.
Over the past six years, the County has supported the opening of over 1,100 new housing starts and another 3,144 units are on track over the next 5 years.
