MARICOPA, AZ – Maricopa County has received 58 National Association of Counties (NACo) National Achievement Awards this year for the design and implementation of programs that have had a measurable, positive impact on the community.
According to County information, 16 departments, elected officials and courts were honored in service categories including public safety, healthcare and information technology, among others.
The Maricopa County Election Command Center won the “Best in Category” award for Civic Education and Public Information.
“I have served on this board for nearly a decade, and I have never been prouder of the work we are doing on behalf of residents,” said Chairman Clint Hickman, District 4.
“Whether it’s getting critical information to residents to help them participate in elections, providing resources that improve their safety and well-being, or improving our processes so we use taxpayer dollars more efficiently, Maricopa County is a model for how governments can get important things done in a timely manner,” Hickman added.
The influx of federal pandemic recovery funds has allowed county departments to reach even more residents with their services. Two prominent examples are Maricopa County’s Human Services and Public Health departments, which each won 15 NACo Achievement Awards for their efforts to serve underserved and under-resourced populations.
“Not everyone can go to work every day and come home knowing they’ve made their community a little better or someone’s life a little less difficult,” said County Manager Jen Pokorski.
