MEXICO – Mexico’s Ministry of Treasury and Public Credit (SHCP) has given authorization for the implementation of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro Port of Entry project, which considers the construction of an international crossing between Anapra in Ciudad Juarez and Sunland Park, New Mexico.
The Municipal President of Juarez, Cruz Perez Cuellar and the Mayor of Sunland Park Javier Perea, announced that the Federal Government, through the SHCP gave the registration number 73652/23096280001 in the Mexican Investment Unit.
Perez Cuellar said that this number is very important to follow up the project with the Federal Government of the United States, since the consolidation of this initiative would be good for the economic and urban issue for both sides of the border, besides helping to reduce waiting times at border crossings in the region.
“This is a very dynamic border and the approval of the project is a great step to continue working on advancing the project,” Perez mentioned.
Perea said that the registration of the project before the Mexican Government allows his administration to negotiate with the governor of New Mexico, Michelle Luján Grisham and the President of the United States, Joe Biden, the presidential permit to begin seeking funds for the work, which contemplates an investment of more than US$120 million on the U.S. side.
The general director of the Municipal Institute of Research and Planning (IMIP) of Juarez, Roberto Mora Palacios, explained that in order to obtain the Investment Unit number from the SHCP, all the requirements of the Federal Government were met, including the traffic study, feasibility analysis, cost-benefit study and binational instrumentation, as well as a series of planning meetings with the Ministry of Communications and Transportation, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It was announced that on June 15 there will be a work meeting with representatives of the Border Bridge Trust Fund to follow up on the development work in Ciudad Juarez.
