SAN DIEGO – The Economic Development Corporation’s (EDC) World Trade Center San Diego (WTCSD) was awarded the President’s “E” Award for Export Service.
Presented by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., the “E” Award recognizes WTCSD’s commitment to export and job growth, especially through MetroConnect and Export SBDC.
The EDC noted that this is the highest recognition a U.S. entity can receive for its significant contribution to export expansion.
“We are very proud to be included among the recipients of the President’s “E” Award. Whether it’s through our flagship MetroConnect accelerator or the direct advice we offer exporters as the SBDC, our team is committed and passionate about supporting the growth of local businesses and showcasing all that San Diego has to offer to the rest of the world. As we often say, our work here has only just begun,” said Lucas Coleman, Director of the WTCSD.
Through a training-based model, WTCSD’s MetroConnect accelerator equips sets of 15 San Diego companies with the resources and partners they need to grow their international sales.
To receive specialized assistance, the next group of MetroConnect VII companies will be located in one of three specialized tracks that reflect the strengths of San Diego’s economy: life sciences, strategic technology and consumer goods.
In its first six years, MetroConnect has helped 95 local small and medium-sized businesses generate a net increase of $97 million in international sales, 522 international contracts and 32 overseas installations. This international growth has coincided with 319 new hires in the San Diego region.
