BROWNSVILLE, TX – Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr. and city commissioners announced the arrival of the Texas Summer Games 2023, a multi-sport event to be held July 27-30, bringing an estimated 7,000 athletes and thousands more in visitors from across the state.
“Our city hosting the Texas Summer Games is an extraordinary opportunity for us as a community and as a region to showcase South Texas and the city of Brownsville,” Mayor Cowen said.
According to Cowen, the games will be an opportunity to witness sportsmanship while inviting guests to enjoy the culture and hospitality of the city.
“Here in Brownsville, we are privileged to offer a mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, shopping venues and cutting-edge technology companies like SpaceX,” said Helen Ramirez, AICP City Manager.
The Texas Summer Games will feature a wide range of athletic competitions, spanning youth and adult categories in a variety of sports. Events include basketball, boxing, disc golf, flag football, golf, pickleball, skateboarding, football, softball, swimming, tennis and track and field.
The city assured it is ready to welcome thousands of athletes, their families and spectators at numerous venues in Brownsville, including those provided by the Brownsville Independent School District.
The opening ceremony will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the Brownsville Sports Park – Championship Field with a pre-show beginning at 7 p.m., followed by the main event.
The Texas Games are expected to provide memorable experiences for athletes, their families and visitors. It is also an opportunity for athletes to advance to state-level competition.
