ARIZONA – Governor Katie Hobbs has announced her appointments to the Arizona-Mexico Commission, with which Arizona officials will be working closely with their Sonoran counterparts to ensure the state is aligned and ready to begin working in a coordinated manner to advance cross-border initiatives.
Additionally, Governor Hobbs announced that the commission’s first Binational Plenary in more than four years will be held in the fall.
“Mexico is an important economic and cultural partner. These appointees have the expertise to ensure that we leverage that partnership to create jobs and grow the economy, promote cultural exchange and keep all communities safe. With this diverse group of business and community leaders, I am confident we can build a strong and collaborative cross-border relationship,” said Hobbs.
David Figueroa, Sonora State Government Representative in Arizona, explained that there is excitement on the part of the Mexican entity to continue strengthening the relationship with the United States. “This is a great moment to re-launch this collaboration mechanism under the leadership of Governor Hobbs and Governor Durazo, who are jointly promoting projects with a shared vision to improve economic, social and cultural aspects for the inhabitants of our region,” he said.
Each border county has at least two representatives, and this group includes more women than have ever served simultaneously.
Among the appointees are James Ahlers of TSMC; Past Chairman Russell “Rusty” Bowers of RWB Worldwide; Chris Camacho of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council: Gema Duarte Luna, of Luna Valencia; Laura Franco French, of TSMC; Molly Greene, of Salt River Project; Rhett Larson, of Arizona State University; Rana Lashgari, of Arizona Municipal Solutions, LLC; Andres Martinez, also of Arizona State University; Vicki Mayo, of, Global Market Innovators; Jack McCain, of American Airlines; Ayensa Millan, of CIMA Law Group; Tim Nelson, of Nelson Law Group, PLLC; Jim Pederson, of Pederson Group, Inc; Todd Sanders, of the Greater Phoenix Chamber; and Donna Valdes, of Xico, all from Maricopa County.
From Pima County, Javier Durán, from the University of Arizona; Erik Bakken, from Tucson Electric Power; and Arturo Gabaldón, from Community Water Company of Green Valley. From Yuma County, Julie Engel of the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation and Buna George of the Greater Yuma Port Authority stand out.
Adam Brake of Industria Sanitaria and Mignonne Hollis of the Arizona Regional Economic Development Foundation represent Cochise County, while Jaime Chamberlain of Chamberlain Distributing, Inc. and Guillermo Valencia of Valencia International, Inc. represent Santa Cruz County, and Yimin Wang of Northern Arizona University will represent Coconino County.
