ELOY, AZ – Freepoint Eco-Systems LLC, has announced the development of a commercial-scale advanced plastics recycling plant located in Eloy, Arizona.
The facility, which is ISCC Plus certified, will recycle end-of-life plastic waste that would otherwise go to landfill or incineration. The Arizona Commerce Authority, noted that the plant will encompass 40 acres of currently undeveloped land and will have the capacity to recycle approximately 180,000 tons of plastic waste per year, making it one of the largest advanced recycling facilities in the world.
“The development of our advanced recycling plant in Arizona represents an expansion of our presence in the United States. From construction to start-up operations, the Arizona facility will have a positive impact on plastics recycling and the local community through job creation and greenhouse gas reduction,” said, Jeff McMahon, CEO of Freepoint.
The company uses proven technology to convert plastic waste into raw material that is used to create new plastic products. The process not only reduces plastic waste, but also reduces drilling for oil, thus leaving oil in the ground.
In addition, the carbon footprint of plastic produced as a result of Freepoint’s recycling process will be up to 90% lower than the carbon footprint of discarded plastic made directly from fossil fuels. The advanced recycling plant in Hebron, Ohio, is currently under construction and is expected to begin commercial operation in the second half of 2024.
Freepoint will create 200 construction jobs in Arizona between 2024 and 2025 to build the plant, as well as approximately 100 full-time circular economy jobs once the facility begins commercial operations.
The Eloy, Arizona plant is expected to begin commercial operation in the first half of 2026.
