EL PASO, TX – As of October 23, the City of El Paso’s Capital Improvements Department began reconstructing a segment of Campbell Street, a project that aims to improve the transportation system.
The City Council reported that the reconstruction of the street, located in the center of the city, will help improve the comprehensive regional transportation system by repaving and installing optimizations along the roadway from Sixth Avenue to Loop 375.
Various signage has been installed at the site to mark detours and lane closures for the duration of the project. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes during their daily commute to avoid traffic congestion due to construction activities. Detours and the project schedule are subject to change due to unforeseen conditions or events.
In order to improve road safety, the project will also include the installation of new traffic signals and roadway markings. As part of the project, new ADA-compliant sidewalks, curbs, gutters and driveways will be installed, as well as a new storm sewer system to help alleviate and prevent flooding.
The project will also improve the visual image of the area with new improvements to the promenade, including the installation of street lighting, landscaping and the installation of a new irrigation system.
This $2.29 million project is part of the City of El Paso’s commitment to improve the comprehensive regional transportation system, the City Council noted.
