EL PASO, TX – Meta, formerly known as Facebook, announced plans to build a hyperscale data center in El Paso, Texas.
The data center, estimated to cost US$800 million, will be located on a 100-acre site in south El Paso. The construction will create more than 1,000 jobs during the construction phase, and once operational, will create more than 200 permanent jobs.
In addition, the data center will also provide an important source of tax revenue for the city and county of El Paso.
“We are thrilled to invest in El Paso,” said Nick Clegg, Meta’s vice president of global affairs. “We believe this community has a lot to offer our company, from its skilled workforce to its strategic location.”
El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser called Meta’s announcement “a win for our city.” “This project represents a significant investment in El Paso and will help us create jobs and economic opportunities. We are grateful to Meta for choosing our city,” he commented.
The data center will be the second hyperscale data center to be built in El Paso. In 2022, Microsoft announced plans to build a hyperscale data center in North El Paso.
Hyperscale data centers are large-scale facilities used to store and process large amounts of data. They have become an important part of the Internet infrastructure, housing the data of companies such as Meta, Microsoft and Amazon.
