CHIHUAHUA – As part of the strategies for the construction of a more competitive Chihuahua, the inauguration of the new Essilor Luxottica plant, SOFI II, took place.
In her speech, Governor María Eugenia Campos Galván affirmed that the conclusion of this project is proof that continuity and the sum of wills reap great fruits, and emphasized that thanks to the coordinated work, a region of development is being built where this company, a world leader in the production of lenses, has decided to bet again.
She highlighted the almost 2,000 jobs that will be generated with this new plant, which with an investment of US$130 million, will also establish ecologically responsible processes, which prioritize water saving and the use of waste.
“Chihuahua has become an attractive and reliable destination for investment and I am not saying it, all the indicators that position us this way affirm it, in addition to the almost 500 manufacturing companies installed in our entity,” said Campos.
As examples, she mentioned that the state is number one in exports thanks to the fact that companies recognize the importance and value given to foreign investment, which last year amounted to more than US$4 billion.
Fabien Festal, general director of SOFI in Chihuahua, stated that this inauguration also celebrates the continuity of a project that began 17 months ago and that materializes today thanks to teamwork between partners, collaborators and the State Administration.
“More than 38 years of growth in this state have confirmed to us that the attraction and development of talent is key; this plant has automated processes that, I must emphasize, are also achieved thanks to the collaboration agreements that have been provided to us with the higher education institutions of the entity,” he said.
The mayor of Chihuahua, Marco Bonilla, emphasized that the capital is a highly competitive city by achieving a positive impact on the quality of life of the people of Chihuahua, with development, innovation and technology.
In the company of authorities from the company and the State Government, the President cut the inaugural ribbon of the SOFI II facilities, and then completed a tour of the plant, during which she heard the history of the company, the details of its products and the experiences of the workers who are part of its staff.
Located in the BAFAR Industrial Park, this EssilorLuxottica Corporate space will manufacture lenses and frames with state-of-the-art technological processes, with the quality of the Chihuahua labor force that is part of this company.
The plant’s facilities are designed as a smart factory, which uses the latest technologies in automation, manufacturing and cybernetic systems to increase employee safety, reduce waste and maintain product quality.
