TAMAULIPAS – The Government of Mexico approved the Social Impact Assessment for the Trion oil and gas project, submitted by Woodside Energy in May 2023.
The assessment provides a comprehensive analysis of the project and describes the strategies Woodside will implement to manage social impacts for the benefit of Tamaulipas communities.
Matthew Ridolfi, Woodside’s Executive Vice President of Projects, called the approval an important milestone in the development of the project, which is of great importance to the nation.
Ridolfi emphasized that the Social Impact Assessment will be a fundamental tool for the management of the project during the construction phase.
“The development of this comprehensive plan will allow us to better engage with local communities and more effectively support their needs throughout the project, from construction to first oil production,” mentioned Ridolfi.
José Ramón Silva Arizabalo, Secretary of Energy Development of Tamaulipas, highlighted that the approval is in line with the guidelines of Governor Américo Villarreal’s administration, prioritizing a humanistic approach and requiring companies investing in the state to implement social projects that benefit the Tamaulipas population.
