BROWNSVILLE, TX – The City of Brownsville announced the selection of Angel E. Ramos as the new Director of Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport, who will assume the position on February 20, 2024.
Ramos brings to the position more than 20 years of experience in airport planning, design, construction management and capital infrastructure programming.
Helen Ramirez, Brownsville City Manager, commented that Ramos combines technical knowledge with proven leadership skills. “His experience positions him exceptionally well to lead our airport in its next stage of growth and development,” she said.
“I am honored to assume this new position. I look forward to contributing to the growth of Brownsville and its surrounding communities. Together with the airport staff, we will work to elevate the airport’s stature on a global level and strengthen the city’s economy,” Ramos said.
Prior to joining Brownsville, Ramos held senior management positions at CVG Airport Authority and Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. In these roles, he led terminal modernization and expansion projects, as well as capital improvement programs.
The City Council emphasized that the new airport director has a solid academic and professional background. He holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico. In addition, he is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), accredited as an Airport Executive (AAE) and certified as an International Airport Professional (IAP).
The selection was made after an exhaustive and competitive search process. The Airport Advisory Council, led by Chairman Ed Rivera and Vice Chairman Javier Villarreal, played a key role in evaluating the candidates.
The City of Brownsville said Ramos will lead South Padre Island Airport into a new era of innovation, efficiency and growth.
