TAMAULIPAS – The Governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal Anaya met with the President of the National Council of the Maquiladora and Manufacturing Export Industry (Index), Humberto Martínez Cantú, and leaders of this organization in Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo and Matamoros.
At the meeting held at Casa Tamaulipas, the economic prospects of the maquiladora industry in the state were analyzed and collaboration opportunities were identified to promote new investments and expansions.
The potential of Tamaulipas to increase its exports in the IMMEX sector was highlighted and it was agreed to take advantage of Nearshoring opportunities to strengthen the state’s economy.
Martinez Cantu, president-elect of the National Council of Index, mentioned that in 2023 Tamaulipas reached exports for 11 thousand 176 million dollars, which represents 4.70% of the national total. The cities with the highest export activity were Reynosa (4,194 million dollars), Nuevo Laredo (1,362 million dollars), Matamoros (2,356 million dollars) and other municipalities (3,264 million dollars).
The president of Index highlighted that this sector, with 442 establishments in Tamaulipas, generates 276 thousand jobs for the people of Tamaulipas.
The Secretary of Economy of Tamaulipas, Ninfa Cantú Deándar, welcomed the attendees. The presidents of Index Matamoros, Rolando González Barrón; Nuevo Laredo, Enrique Morán; and Reynosa, Raúl Setién Castillo, also participated.
Also present were Roberto Mattus Rivera (general director of Index Matamoros), Julio Rangel (general director of Index Nuevo Laredo) and Martha Ramos Morales (general director of Index Reynosa).
Governor Villarreal was accompanied by the Secretary of Labor, Olga Sosa Ruíz; the Secretary of Urban Development and Environment, Karina Saldívar Lartigue; the Secretary of Energy Development, José Ramón Silva; the Secretary of Water Resources for Social Development, Raúl Quiroga Álvarez; the head of the Governor’s Office, Ricardo Guerrero Morales; and the legal advisor of the Executive Branch, Tania Contreras López.
