BROWNAVILLE, TX – BTX Fiber, an Internet service provider, held the ribbon cutting of its Lit Fiber-BTX Demo Center in the city of Brownsville. The event attracted dozens of community leaders and members eager to learn more about the high-speed broadband Internet service the company will soon offer.
BTX Fiber’s project to install subway fiber optic cable throughout the city was well underway and promised to revolutionize Internet connectivity for residents and businesses alike. The service would bring high-speed internet to the forefront, serving the needs of the community in the digital age.
The event featured a panel discussion where attendees were able to learn more about Lit Fiber and the advancements and improvements Brownsville residents and businesses would experience with the new Internet service.
The company has prioritized providing Internet access to 32 Brownsville landmark institutions. These included critical entities such as the Brownsville Police Department, the city’s fire stations, U.S. Post Offices, and various municipal and utility offices, including public parks.
Mayor John Cowen Jr. underscored the significance of the occasion, noting how Brownsville had previously been one of the least connected cities in the U.S. in terms of fiber connectivity.
“I just think the achievement allows us to level the playing field from a regional perspective, from a state, and a national perspective. I think it’s going to open up a lot of opportunities for our residents and our businesses,” Cowen said.
City Manager Helen Ramirez, AICP, stressed that the BTX fiber will be a significant advancement for Brownsville and provide resiliency for the entire community. With the fiber buried approximately 48 inches underground, it ensures that even during tropical storms or windstorms, connectivity will not be compromised. This means that residents and businesses can count on constant communication and Internet access, enhancing their ability to stay connected and operational in adverse weather conditions.
Ramirez said the purpose of the Demonstration Center was to help educate the public about BTX Fiber and the money the city allocated for BTX Fiber is to go into some of the communities and talk to them about the Internet provider.
Lindsay Miller, business manager for Lit Fiber, highlighted the superiority of fiber optics as the most robust broadband service available today. Miller said Lit Fiber provides reliable and resilient connectivity, offering subscribers an uninterrupted and interference-free online experience.
“We expect to have service available over the true last mile in the near future and will also make major announcements when that time comes,” Miller said.
