JUAREZ, CHIH – In order to establish a formal space for the creation of the Anapra-Sunland Park International Crossing, the Municipal Government of Juarez and the Government of Sunland Park, New Mexico signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The signing is part of the progress that has been made for the construction of this international crossing that has as its objective the passage of light vehicles and pedestrians, benefiting mainly the citizenship with the reduction of lines and the economic development of both cities.
In the Memorandum of Understanding, the specific location for the international crossing was announced, which will be established in the vicinity of Tonina Street, in the Anapra neighborhood, on the Mexican side.
The Mayor of Juarez, Cruz Perez Cuellar emphasized that this project, despite taking several years to be completed, has shown significant progress, especially now that a physical space for the executive project has been determined.
For his part, Sunland Park Mayor Javier Perea noted that this project could bring important economic development to the city, where important efforts have recently been made to attract more tourism to the region.
Officials from both sides of the border emphasized that the project is in phase two, where the approval of the base group is being sought, which is made up of Federal Government agencies, such as the Treasury Department and Customs, among others.
In the case of the United States, presidential approval is required, which is being worked on through the competent agencies.
At the moment it is expected that the State of New Mexico will allocate 120 million dollars to the work, while on the Mexican side the investment is in the range of 50 million dollars, which is being sought through organizations such as the North American Development Bank and the Chihuahua Border Bridge Trust.
The signing of the memorandum was attended by Hector Rangel, Sunland Park’s Secretary of Public Works, as well as officials of the Municipal Government.
