GUAYMAS, SON – Starting in June, Ford in Hermosillo will begin a pilot plan to ship its vehicles through the Port of Guaymas, replacing the transfer that was normally done by land to Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.
The Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montaño, indicated that the modernization of the Port of Guaymas has attracted the interest of the assembly plant due to the economic benefits it represents.
Durazo emphasized that the interest of the world-class car assembly company in using the Port of Guaymas as an access route, demonstrates the economic consolidation that is being forged in the state as a result of the modernization of the port.
He explained that representatives from the European Commission and the Port of Antwerp will visit the Port of Guaymas to learn about the remodeling process of the Port of Guaymas, in addition to signing an agreement for its administration.
“We are going to send the first ship with Ford cars manufactured in Hermosillo, which now go by land and leave through Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, so that they understand the importance of the Port of Guaymas, imagine what it costs Ford to move a car from Hermosillo to Lázaro Cárdenas by land, now an hour away through the Port of Guaymas,” Durazo said.
Of the 13 work fronts that make up the modernization of the Port of Guaymas, seven are already finished, while last year three sections of the Guaymas-Chihuahua highway were intervened.
