NEW MEXICO – New Mexico State University (NMSU) has received a five-year extension of its Innovation and Economic Prosperity Program designation from the Association and Public Land-Grant Universities.
APLU and its Commission on Economic and Community Engagement established the IEP program to help institutions of higher education strengthen their strategies and practices in economic and community development, while providing due recognition to institutions that are exemplary in their institutional commitment to regional economic engagement.
“I am delighted that NMSU has received a five-year extension of its designation as an Innovation and Economic Prosperity Program,” said Luis Cifuentes, NMSU vice president for research, creativity and economic development.
Cifuentes noted that the extension reinforces the institution’s commitment to impact economic development locally, regionally and throughout New Mexico.
According to APLU, the goal of the five-year extension process is to reaffirm the institution’s commitment to economic engagement, ensure that its Growth and Enhancement Plan and economic engagement enterprise is consistent with current conditions and goals, and ensure that the IEP designation continues to serve as a mark of excellence.
