Ramon Chavez is the new assistant manager of the City of Laredo

LAREDO, TX – The Laredo City Council announced the appointment of Ramon Chavez as the new Deputy City Manager.

Chavez, has been a city employee since 2005, began his career in the Utilities Department and has served as City Engineer since January 2019.

City Manager Joseph Neeb expressed his enthusiasm for Chavez’s appointment.

“I am pleased to announce that Ramon Chavez has been selected as our new Assistant City Manager. Ramon brings a wealth of leadership experience, technical expertise and a strong commitment to public service that will greatly benefit the City of Laredo as we continue to grow and evolve,” commented Neeb.

During his career with the City of Laredo, Chavez has played a pivotal role in the management and execution of critical infrastructure projects, particularly during his time as City Engineer, contributing significantly to the development and modernization of the city.

“Ramon distinguished himself not only for his professional qualifications, but also for his ability to inspire collaboration and deliver results,” added City Manager Neeb.

As Deputy City Manager, Chavez will oversee key initiatives and provide strategic leadership to support the city’s continued growth and development. His appointment underscores the City’s commitment to fostering innovation and excellence within its leadership team.

Ramon Chavez, began his career with the City of Laredo in 2005 as an Associate Engineer I in the Utilities Department, where he designed and reviewed water and sanitary sewer infrastructure for residential and commercial developments. In October 2007, he was promoted to Engineering Associate II in the Building Development Services Department.

In 2010, he achieved his goal of becoming a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. Three years later, in 2013, he advanced to the role of Director of Building Development Services. His leadership journey continued when he was named Executive Director of Public Services in the City Manager’s office, overseeing Road Safety, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and the Engineering Department from October 2017 to January 2019.

Since 2019, Chavez has been the City Engineer, providing direction and oversight for all Capital Improvement Program projects. He also oversees the administration, design, drafting, surveying and construction inspection divisions within the Engineering Department, focusing on residential and commercial development.

Chavez received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1999. He is a proud alumnus of United High School, where he was inducted into the Longhorn League of Legends in 2020.
