TMEIC Corporation Americas, a subsidiary of Japan’s TMEIC Corporation, announced the construction of a new manufacturing plant in Waller County, Texas. The facility will focus on the production of uninterruptible power supply systems and medium voltage drives.
The project contemplates an initial investment of more than $65 million and the creation of 62 jobs. As part of the state incentive, the company received a US$368,838 grant from the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF), a state government program that seeks to attract job-creating investment projects.
The decision to locate the plant in Texas responds, according to the company, to factors such as a favorable business environment and a strong industrial ecosystem. “Collaboration with the state of Texas and Waller County was key to our decision,” said Manmeet S. Bhatia, president and CEO of TMEIC Corporation Americas.
Local and state authorities highlighted the relevance of the project for the regional economy. According to official information, the investment is part of a growing trend of foreign capital in the state, particularly from Japanese companies. In recent years, Japan has been among the leading countries in job generation derived from foreign direct investment in Texas.
TMEIC Corporation was formed in 2003 after the merger of industrial divisions of Toshiba Corporation and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, and offers solutions for automation, industrial motors, photovoltaic systems and variable frequency drives.
