The Uber Eats platform will integrate supermarkets and specialty stores into its services for the cities of Saltillo and Torreón, in Coahuila. The expansion seeks to facilitate the access of small and medium-sized businesses to e-commerce, and to offer users more options for their daily shopping.
According to data from the Government of Coahuila, there are more than 33,500 SMEs operating in Saltillo, while in Torreón the figure exceeds 36,000. With this integration, Uber Eats expects to incorporate more than 200 businesses in both cities, including florists, pharmacies and convenience stores. It will also add 44 supermarkets.
The company said the project has the potential to generate more than 1,500 opportunities for people interested in working as delivery drivers over the next year.
The state’s Undersecretary of Economy, Azalea Maldonado Wong, pointed out that the use of technological platforms can strengthen the competitiveness of local businesses by bringing them closer to new markets without the need for large investments.
In addition to this expansion, Uber Eats announced the relaunch of its restaurant category in Ciudad Acuña, with a new offering that includes more than 50 establishments. The company seeks to strengthen the presence of local businesses in the digital ecosystem and expand its operation in the state, where it already has a presence in Torreón, Saltillo, Monclova, Piedras Negras and Ciudad Acuña.
Paola Aguilar, director of supermarkets and specialty stores at Uber Mexico, noted that the expansion in Coahuila seeks to meet a growing demand and adapt to the needs of consumers in the region.
