The expansion of the Interserrana Highway is 86% complete, according to Nuevo Leon’s Secretary of Mobility and Urban Planning. The project seeks to improve logistics connectivity between the south of the state and the northern border, with the intention of speeding up the transportation of goods and reducing the flow of heavy cargo within the metropolitan area of Monterrey.
José Francisco Ibargüengoytia Borrego, Undersecretary of Infrastructure, explained that the works consist of widening the road from 10 to 23 meters wide, which will allow to go from two to four lanes in each direction.
The section includes the construction of three road distributors: in San Roberto, Ejido de Tokio and the junction known as “Y de arriba”. The most complex one, in San Roberto, 900 meters long, is also 86% complete. According to the official, the main structure has already been completed and work is currently being done on ramps and the asphalt surface to allow the passage of vehicles coming from Matehuala, Saltillo and Monterrey to Highway 85.
The short-term projection is that in three months the first 18 kilometers will be articulated in four lanes. In 10 months, the 34-kilometer stretch between San Roberto, Highway 57 and Galeana is expected to be completed.
The new route would allow cargo vehicles to avoid passing through Santa Catarina and the Monterrey metropolitan area, connecting directly with the national highway and the Periférico Metropolitano. This would reduce travel times by up to one hour and reduce logistics costs, according to state government estimates.
