Maritime and air tourism increases in Baja California

Baja California recorded an increase in tourism and mobility during the first four months of 2025, with a rise in the number of cruise ships arriving at the port of Ensenada and a greater flow of passengers at its main airports, according to official data.

According to the National Port System Administration (ASIPONA), from January to April, 112 cruise ships arrived in the state, transporting 387,846 passengers in transit. This represents a 38 percent increase over the same period in 2024, when 93 ships and 281,000 passengers were recorded.

Among the highlights of the season is the arrival of Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas, considered the largest cruise ship ever to arrive at the port of Ensenada. Its visit marks a milestone in the destination’s international projection.

In terms of air connectivity, the Tijuana, Mexicali, and San Felipe airport authorities reported 34,176 flight operations between January and April, with a total of 4,553,324 passengers. Compared to the same period in 2024, these figures represent a 6.6 percent increase in operations and a 5.9 percent increase in passenger flow.

During this period, routes from Tijuana International Airport were also expanded. The airline Viva Aerobus added direct flights to Hermosillo, La Paz, Querétaro, and Veracruz, strengthening Baja California’s connectivity with other regions of the country.

State authorities point out that the boost to tourism and mobility infrastructure seeks to generate greater economic revenue and strengthen the range of services available to visitors and residents.
