New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham participated this week in the Fourth Annual Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference, to be held in Anchorage, with the aim of promoting the state’s advanced energy initiatives and exploring new partnerships.
Lujan Grisham will be accompanied by Secretary of Economic Development Rob Black, Secretary of Environment James Kenney, and Deputy Director of Operations Caroline Buerkle. During her stay, the governor will hold meetings with federal officials, including Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin, and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum.
The delegation will present New Mexico’s progress in sectors such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) production, hydrogen development, carbon management, and geothermal energy, areas that the state considers key to its economic growth and energy transition.
According to the state government, New Mexico stands out for having some of the strictest regulations in the country regarding methane emissions, which has helped position its LNG as one of the cleanest in the world. Investments in carbon capture and storage technologies, as well as in the use of renewable sources, have also been promoted.
The governor is scheduled to return on June 4. During her absence, Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales assumed the state’s executive functions.
