Texas promotes discussion on nuclear energy

The Texas Nuclear Summit 2025, organized by the Texas Nuclear Alliance (TNA), brought together representatives from industry, government, academia, and regulatory agencies for three days in Austin to discuss the development of nuclear energy and Texas’ role in the implementation and export of nuclear technology.

The event was attended by Governor Greg Abbott, state legislators, former federal officials, and executives from nuclear energy companies and institutes. Topics discussed included the transition from demonstration technologies to commercialization, regulatory strategies, supply chain development and workforce training, integration of artificial intelligence and data analysis, and nuclear energy in national security.

During the summit, advances in advanced reactor projects, academic programs to train nuclear engineers, and private investment in new nuclear generation technologies were highlighted. The summit brought together more than 700 attendees and served as a platform to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the sector in the state.

During the event, Governor Abbott announced the creation of the Texas Advanced Nuclear Energy Office (TANEO) and the implementation of a $350 million Advanced Nuclear Development Fund to support nuclear energy projects. He also received the “Texan Atomic Award” for his involvement in promoting the sector.

The meeting focused on consolidating Texas’ position as a major player in the U.S. nuclear industry, encouraging the exchange of experiences among authorities, companies, and academics on policy, regulation, safety, and energy sustainability.
