Maquiladoras Support Industrial Activity in Chihuahua

Industrial activity in the state of Chihuahua showed moderate growth in October, largely driven by the performance of the maquiladora sector, despite weaker results in other industries.

According to recent economic data, overall industrial activity in the state increased by 1.1% compared to the previous month. On an annual basis, activity rose by 0.5% compared to the same period last year, reflecting a slight but positive trend.

This growth was mainly supported by manufacturing and export-oriented companies, which continued to play a key role in sustaining the region’s industrial output. In contrast, other sectors experienced declines, limiting broader expansion.

Mining activity decreased by 3.3%, while the electricity, water, and gas sector recorded a drop of 7.2%. Construction activity also fell by 2.4%, highlighting ongoing challenges in infrastructure development and investment.

Meanwhile, manufacturing industries, particularly maquiladoras, posted an annual increase of 1.5%, helping offset losses in other areas. These companies remain essential to Chihuahua’s economy, providing employment and maintaining strong links with international supply chains.

The data underscores the importance of export manufacturing in stabilizing regional economic activity. As global demand and nearshoring trends continue to influence production, Chihuahua’s maquiladora sector is expected to remain a key driver of industrial growth in the coming months.
