
The Nuevo Leon Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CAINTRA) proposed a coordination strategy involving the state government, municipalities, and the local legislature to resume the road project known as the Triangulo Norte: this project involves the modernization and connectivity of the main access routes to the northern part of the metropolitan area, including the highways to Laredo, Colombia, Monclova, the Libramiento, and the Periferico.
The business organization seeks to revitalize this key hub with a long-term vision that puts citizens at the center, to spur economic development and directly improve the quality of life for workers.
This sector represents the state’s most important export corridor, with an annual flow of approximately US$66 billion in goods moving by land toward the US border. In addition to housing strategic companies and distribution centers, 13,000 freight vehicles and 52,000 private cars travel through the area daily.
This traffic gridlock entails an opportunity cost in man-hours equivalent to US$14 million annually, in addition to the human toll, as a resident who uses public transportation in this area loses, on average, one week of their life each year stuck in traffic.
