According to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), the transformation industry in Ciudad Juarez reached a historic record in the number of employees, surpassing the maximum amount of 282,761, which had been recorded 16 years ago, in October 2000.
However, the industry reached a 288,333 count of registered employees in town this past September, which means that the maximum amount on file has been exceeded. Just between September 2015 and the same month in 2016, the industry has gained 16,856 employees. Jose Yarahuan, President of the Maquiladoras Civil Association (AMAC-Index Juarez), indicated that this growth trend is due to the economic expansion the U.S. is experiencing.
