MEXICO – Local businesses are selling contaminated U.S. chicken in Matamoros, Reynosa and the border region, Cámara Nacional de Comercio, Servicio y Turismo de Tamaulipas warned.
“The chicken imported from the U.S. and that is imported mainly by the Customs of Matamoros and Reynosa has presented for about 15 days a ‘smell of rot’ and green and blue spots on the body of many pieces of chicken, as well as inside of them,” warned the business organization.
For this reason, the agency requested the intervention of Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios (Cofepris), Secretaría de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural (Sader) and Servicio de Inocuidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria.To consumers, they recommended to pay attention to the conditions of the product before buying it, especially the ones coming from the United States.
