TIJUANA – Baja California will grow 2.7% in the industrial sector during 2019 over the previous year, estimated Luis Hernandez Gonzalez, president of Industria Maquiladora y de Exportación (Index) Coastal Zone.
Mr. Hernandez added that during the first quarter of the current year the increase will be 1.2% despite the fact that the sector is paused, as they await the signing of United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA).
Industry in general is waiting because the U.S. federal government declared a pause, he said, and it is a period that affects all three North American countries.
He stressed that there is optimism for the agreement to finish, as the Coastal Zone currently supplies the 7th economy worldwide since is the neighboring state of California.
