MEXICO – Union agitation through illegal strikes, such as the ones taking place in Matamoros and Reynosa, Tamaulipas and Ciudad Juarez, could drive away investment from foreign and U.S. companies, said Larry Rubin, representative of the Republican Party in Mexico.
“We want Mexico to continue to be attractive, that foreign and U.S. companies have a positive relationship with the unions in Mexico,” said the representative of Concamin’s U.S. business community.
Mr. Rubin added that they seek to avoid situations such as the ones happening in Matamoros, Reynosa and Juarez, since this could be one of the factors that could scare away foreign investment that plans to come to the country.
He recalled that recently was announced a U.S. investment with a stock of US$4.8 billion to develop in southeastern Mexico, but urges to respect labor peace as a magnet for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
