CIUDAD JUAREZ – Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reached its peak during 2018 in Chihuahua State for the third year, being the automotive sector the most affected due to uncertainty generated by the commercial war and the USMCA. According to a report from Secretaría de Economía, FDI dropped by 34.1% in 2018 compared to 2017.
Total FDI by 2018 is also the lowest since 2003 when US$1 billion were registered, according to figures from Secretaria de Economia.
The director of the consulting firm Solo Negocios, Alejandro Sandoval Murillo, pointed out that last year there were different events that caused economic uncertainty and recalled that one of the most important, was the negotiation process of the Mexico, Canada and US agreement, that even though it has been already signed, it hasn’t come into force.
