CHIHUAHUA – Due to the partial closure of international crossings at the Ciudad Juárez- El Paso border, manufacturing companies must pay for other methods such as charters with costs ranging from US$35,000 to US$100,000 for their goods to arrive on time at their destination.

The presidents of the associations of Maquiladoras y Exportadoras (Index) of the cities of Chihuahua and Juarez, indicated that this measure will not solve the crisis situation that they are going through but instead it only makes it more expensive.

The cost of a flight of this type can cost up to US$35,000, depending on the amount of merchandise to be transported as well as the distance that will be traveled.

Luis Carlos Ramírez, of Index Chihuahua, stated that the slowness in international bridges generated an increase of up to 15 times more in the operating costs of the export manufacturing industry.
