Forensic Institute to be created in Sonora

MEXICO CITY – Sonora will be one of five sites in the country where the federal government will build a Regional Forensic Institute to address the crisis of unidentified corpses facing Forensic Medical Services.

Alejandro Encinas Rodríguez, undersecretary of Human Rights, Population and Migration of Secretaría de Gobernación, announced an investment of US$21 million to address the crisis of identification of bodies in the country.

Of this amount, US$19 million will go to the construction of the five institutes (US$11.9 million) and fifteen forensic cemeteries (US$7.8 million).

“The proposed cities are Sonora, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Mexico City and Veracruz and will address the needs in forensics and genetics regionally,” said Encinas.

The Federation will allocate US$2 million to the construction of the Institute that will provide regional service to the entities of Baja California, Baja California Sur and Sinaloa.
