BAJA CALIFORNIA – Representatives of the Mexican Chamber of Construction Industry (CMIC) at the national level would be seeking the possibility of some protection in the absence of investment in public works by the federal government.
The president of the CMIC Baja California delegation, José Inzunza Ronquillo, said that in Baja California the federal work is kept to a minimum, since most of the designated resources are not being used.
“At the national level, all the companies affiliated with the CMIC have this problem; they are currently working on a national protection for the lack of work throughout the country,” Inzunza Ronquillo reported.
According to the president of the CMIC, through this protection, the sector seeks to guard itself against some of the federal government’s policies, such as the decision to assign directly to parents and teachers the resource for the construction of classrooms in the education sector.
Nationally, the resource allocated for public works of the Federation Expenditure Budget is US$20 billion, of which US$3.7 billion has been used¾about 19%¾according to data from the organization.
In Baja California, although the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT) has tendered works so far this year, they are kept to a minimum representing about 10% of the budget designated for the state, explained the businessman.
