The Secretariat of Rural Development, Fishing and Aquaculture held a work meeting with state agencies, municipal Rural Development directors and entrepreneurs in the sector, with the objective of strengthening the link with the Hunting and Sport Fishing Commission of Tamaulipas and the Secretariat of Tourism.
As part of this effort, an agreement was signed to coordinate activities aimed at implementing Wildlife Conservation Management Units (UMAS) in Tamaulipas and to offer training in the sector.
Hiram Gutiérrez Pérez, in charge of the Directorate of Rural Development and SMEs, informed about the signing of the agreement on behalf of the Secretary of Rural Development, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Antonio Varela Flores. He explained that the UMAS operate under an authorized management plan and carry out wildlife conservation, management, and sustainable use activities.
In addition to their impact on biodiversity conservation, the UMAS seek to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the rural sector in Tamaulipas through sustainable production schemes. These units implement practices aimed at the orderly management of renewable natural resources in order to mitigate or reverse environmental deterioration.
Coordination with the Tamaulipas Hunting and Sport Fishing Commission also includes identifying the tourism potential of the UMAS. Among the actions planned are the integration of an inventory of tourist attractions, the registration of service providers such as food, lodging, and tourist guides, as well as support for the development of tourist destinations in the region.
