Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) inaugurated its new steel panel normalizing plant in Coahuila, with a US$140 million investment. The plant produces specialized material to build ship and train carts, with plans to venture into the automotive sector.

Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) inaugurated its new steel panel normalizing plant in Coahuila, with a US$140 million investment. The plant produces specialized material to build ship and train carts, with plans to venture into the automotive sector. Luis Zamudio Miechielsen, General Director of the Company, remarked that the plant was developed by Primetals Technologies, which is a partnership between the Austrian company Siemens Vai Metals Trechnologies and the Japanese company Mitsubishi Hitachi Metals Machinery. The normalizing plant currently has capacity to process 350,000 annual tons of steel in its initial stage, but it will expand to a 700,000 tons total capacity during the second stage. There were around 1,500 temporary job openings during the construction process; there are going to be 200 direct workers and 480 indirect workers in charge of regular operation.
