ALBUQUERQUE – About 184 jobs are the number of jobs created in the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2021 through the Job Training Albuquerque (JTA), helping local small businesses better train their employees and generate new jobs in the community.
According to the City Council, the JTA offers free job skills courses through funding provided by the City of Albuquerque Economic Development Department (EDD), and in partnership with Central New Mexico Community College (CNM).
Since its launch in January 2020, JTA has helped 102 organizations and 285 employees build high-demand workforce skills, including coding, accounting, project management, commercial driver’s license training, and more.
“This program, two years in the making, shows how we can work together to elevate Albuquerque’s small businesses and support Burqueños on upward career paths,” said Mayor Tim Keller.
One of the primary goals of this plan is to create jobs by supporting business expansion and workforce development locally. By participating in the JTA, entrepreneurs commit to adding a job to their business within two years, thereby stimulating small business growth through job creation, and creating a deeper labor pool for existing and potential companies.
To date, the JTA has helped employers add 184 jobs in Albuquerque, and has added nearly $8.5 million in annual wage power. In addition, the City Council reported a 567% growth in employee participation, while the program also experienced a 200% increase in employer collaboration in 2021, of which, 43% were women-owned businesses.
In 2021, JTA offered courses through the University of New Mexico Anderson School of Management, WESST, the New Mexico Child Care and Education Association and Pivotal New Mexico.
