PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix International Airport announced the start of new American Airlines service to Tijuana, Mexico. The daily nonstop flight from the Arizona city to General Abelardo L. Rodriguez International Airport (TIJ) began February 15, 2024.
“Phoenix and Mexico share strong business and tourism connections, and this new direct route to Tijuana further strengthens our partnership,” said Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. “We expect the new flight to generate US$10 million in economic impact each year and ultimately help us in our mission to diversify and strengthen Phoenix’s growing economy, particularly in the manufacturing industry. I want to thank the great team at Aviation and American Airlines for all of their hard work to make today’s announcement possible.”
American Airlines Flight 4841 will depart Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) at 11:15 a.m. and arrive at TIJ at 2:42 p.m. daily. The airline will use Embraer 175 and Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft, seating 76 and 70 passengers respectively.
Phoenix becomes Tijuana’s only U.S. destination, consolidating TIJ as one of the most connected airports in Mexico, with flights to more than 40 destinations in the country.
This new flight is the 14th Mexican destination that American Airlines flies to from Phoenix Sky Harbor. International flights generate significant economic impact for the region. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, these flights had an annual impact of US$3 billion.
